Department: Engineering
Location: Charlestown, New Hampshire
This Tooling Technician plays a critical role in bridging the design of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and their manufacturability through preparation and optimization of customer-supplied PCB design data. This role ensures that all designs meet internal process capabilities and performance requirements, working closely with process engineering and production teams to deliver high-quality printed circuit boards.
Duties & Responsibilities- Import customer‑supplied data (e.g., Gerber, ODB++, drill files, drawings) into CAM systems; validating for completeness and accuracy.
- Perform rigorous design rule checks and adjust data to ensure the design meets manufacturing guidelines.
- Develop manufacturing data sets including array configurations/panelization, routing, scoring, tooling/depanelization planning, test program generation. Output data for production use.
- Work collaboratively with the process engineering team to evaluate the design from a manufacturability (DFM) standpoint, identifying potential production or yield issues early and recommend corrective or alternate strategies as needed.
- Identify and communicate design‑related issues or exceptions with Engineering Manager and internal teams, documenting findings and recommendations clearly.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and production planning teams to ensure smooth process hand‑offs and alignment on tooling strategies.
- Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., UCAM, CAM
350, InCAM, Gen Flex, Genesis, or similar) preferred. - Understanding of PCB manufacturing processes and materials a plus.
- Knowledge of Gerber, ODB++, drill/rout data, netlists, and IPC standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional and customer interactions.
- Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work under deadlines.
- Team player – ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and departments.
- 1–3 years of experience in CAM, PCB tooling, or related technical roles.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, or related technical field preferred — or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
This position operates primarily in an office environment and involves extensive computer‑based work, requiring extended periods of sitting, use of standard office equipment, and consistent communication via email and virtual platforms. Some flexibility in working hours may be required to meet deadlines or support time‑sensitive business activities.
