Purpose
The job of a Special Education Teacher is to develop and implement Individual Education Programs that facilitate a special education student’s success in the general education curriculum and environment (academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living).

Minimum Qualifications- Education

Bachelor’s Degree in General Special Education. - Certificates & Licenses

Must hold or be eligible to hold NH Special Education Teacher Certification. - Preferable Qualifications
:
Master’s Degree and/or advanced endorsement and experience as a special education teacher/case manager.
- Applying assessment instruments.
- Operating standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications and databases (i.e., Google products, NHSEIS, Performance Tracker, AIMSweb, etc.).
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records.

- Promoting the development of students' self-determination.
- Promoting leadership skills of students' families by connecting them with community-based self-advocacy and community resources.
- Instructs students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal/social, and daily living skills through the use of research-based interventions; as well as to progress in the general education curriculum.
- Develops and maintains IEPs, accompanying and required special education paperwork for providing coordinated and cohesive support for students that complies with the district, state, and federal requirements within mandated timelines.
- Observes students in their general education learning environments.
- Adapts classroom instructional assignments to provide students with instructional materials that address Individual Education Programs (IEPs) within established lesson plans both in the general and special education settings.
- Administers and interprets curriculum-based assessments and/or subject-specific assessments for assessing student competency levels and/or developing and monitoring IEPs.
- Administers developmental assessments as needed for assessing student competency levels and/or developing and monitoring IEPs.
- Administers, under supervision, first aid, and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) to provide appropriate care for children as assigned.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and students’ achievements, at least as frequently as report cards are issued; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment; and communicate progress on IEP goals and objectives.
- Collaborates and consults with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and family information and educational records as outlined in FERPA.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment and facilitates the development of effective strategies for use by the student and staff.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment and implementation of IEP goals.
