Purpose:
The Elementary Library Media Specialist is responsible for developing and managing a vibrant school library program that supports the district curriculum, fosters a love of reading, and promotes information literacy. The specialist collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff to ensure equitable access to high-quality resources in various formats and helps students become effective users and creators of ideas and information.

Minimum Qualifications:- Valid NH license as a Library Media Specialist (or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in Library Science or School Library Media preferred.

- Knowledge of children’s literature, current library technology tools, and information literacy standards.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Instructional procedures and practices.
- Stages of child development/behavior.
- Program planning and development.
- Appropriate students learning activities.
- Adapting to changing work priorities.
- Communicating with diverse groups and individuals.
- Understanding detailed information and data.
- Collaborating and working as part of a team.
Library Program & Collection Management:
- Develop, organize, and maintain a diverse and inclusive collection of print and digital materials that support the curriculum and student interests.
- Use data (circulation, reading levels, curriculum needs) to guide purchasing and weeding decisions.
- Maintain an inviting, organized, and accessible library space.
- Partner with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.
- Teach lessons in library skills, digital literacy, research strategies, and ethical use of information.
- Support literacy development by promoting reading for pleasure and academic growth.
- Instruct students in locating, evaluating, and using information effectively.
- Promote safe, responsible, and ethical use of technology and online resources.
- Guide students in using a variety of tools for creating and sharing content.
- Assist students and staff in using educational technologies, databases, and online resources.
- Collaborate with the school technology staff to support instructional technology initiatives.
- Develop and implement a library program aligned with district goals and state/national standards (e.g., AASL, ISTE).
- Manage library budget and resources responsibly.
- Advocate for the library as a hub for learning, creativity, and community.
Other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
