WOODWORKING PROGRAM LEAD - Summer Camp 2026
Southern District YMCA / Camp Lincoln is looking for a WOODWORKING PROGRAM LEAD for the Summer Camp 2026 season. This seasonal role runs from June to August and provides overall leadership and management within the woodworking program area.

Position SummaryThis seasonal role supports the YMCA’s mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Program Leads provide overall leadership and management in their specific program area, implement safe and engaging age‑appropriate activities, supervise counselors, maintain a clean and safe environment, ensure program equipment is well cared for, communicate supply needs, and conduct program evaluation.
Specific Responsibilities / Requirements- Assist in designing and facilitating progressive programming for woodworking specialty camp during the two sessions offered (4 weeks total).
- Teach campers grades 4‑9 a variety of woodworking techniques, such as designing, measuring, building/assembly, sanding, and finishing.
- Support campers in creating projects that they can bring home and in creating a final group project.
- Maintain strict safety protocol for the use of tools and woodworking equipment in the woodworking shed according to Camp Lincoln policy.
- Ensure all campers and staff wear appropriate PPE while woodworking and mitigate risk of injury through teaching safe woodworking techniques.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness in the woodworking shed, including frequent vacuuming of sawdust and sweeping of debris.
- Prepare supplies for activities ahead of program start time.
- Delegate and support staff assigned to the woodworking shed in facilitating activities and providing supervision.
- Experience creating and drafting a variety of woodworking projects preferred.
- Working knowledge of functional use and safety precautions for woodworking tools such as power tools, saws, sanding devices, hammers/mallets, chisels, and drills.
- Teaching, facilitation, or classroom experience preferred.
- Facilitate a safe, fun, and rewarding experience for all campers while embodying Camp Lincoln’s core values:
Respect, Honesty, Caring, and Responsibility. - Responsible for the entire operation of the woodworking program area.
- Oversee safety and supervision of all campers in the area, with special considerations for high‑risk activities.
- Collaborate with other Program Leads, Program Coordinators, and the Assistant Camp Director to support high‑quality daily programming and special events.
- Plan and execute an innovative, engaging, and age‑appropriate curriculum.
- Innovate program area and curriculum as needed.
- Provide feedback to counselors regarding their performance and skill classes.
- Build positive relationships with campers, parents, caregivers, staff, and camp leadership.
- Facilitate fair skill‑class sign‑up process for campers.
- Maintain a safe and clean program area; pick up trash, inspect equipment, organize space.
- Maintain inventory of program supplies and communicate needs to the Assistant Camp Director.
- Stay calm during emergencies and carry out duties as outlined in the Emergency Action Plan.
- Attend all Family Nights, staff meetings, and lifeguard in‑services as required.
- Provide timely communication to the Summer Program Coordinators.
- Adhere to policies regarding appropriate boundaries with staff, campers, and CITs.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to a direct supervisor promptly.
- Attend required child‑abuse risk‑management training and meet mandated abuse‑reporting requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years leadership and childcare/camp experience.
- Strong collaborative and teamwork skills.
- Positive role‑model for campers, peers, and staff.
