The Brandywine Valley SPCA helps more than 27,000 animals a year across the states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia. As the largest no-kill shelter in the region, the BVSPCA gives hope to animals that have lost everything.
Pet families also benefit from low-cost, high quality veterinary services available at BVSPCA Animal Health Centers.
The Grants Manager will be responsible for grant strategy and development to support BVSPCA's fundraising goals, including the oversight of the entire grant’s lifecycle. Also responsible for corporate partnership acquisition.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Work with the Director of Annual Giving, Sr. Director of Development, Chief Advancement Officer, the Chief Executive Officer, staff, and volunteers to support the BVSPCA's mission and programs.
- Oversee the full grants lifecycle, including prospect research, eligibility assessment, proposal development, submission, tracking, reporting, and stewardship.
- Research and identify new grant funding opportunities (federal, state, and private).
- Maintain a grants calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor grant budgets, milestones, and deliverables to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
- Maintain a pipeline of qualified grant prospects.
- Prepare and submit timely grant submissions and reports.
- Work collaboratively with programs departments to collect information and data required for grant proposals and reporting.
- Secure new corporate and event sponsorship opportunities/partnerships for the BVSPA & HSHA.
- Build and steward relationships with foundation and corporate funders.
- Identify opportunities to deepen partnerships through renewals, upgrades, and multi-year support.
- Assist with BVSPCA & HSHA signature events as‑needed (Fur Ball, Forget-Me-Not gala, Walk for Paws, Penguin Plunge) including fundraising efforts and logistics.
- Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
- Must embrace the mission of the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
- Demonstrate strong relationship‑building and interpersonal skills.
- Possess exceptional writing, editing, and story‑telling skills for proposals and reports.
- Be organized and exhibit follow‑through on tasks and goals.
- Have proven track record of securing foundation, corporate, and/or government funding.
- Exhibit excellent project management and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Have experience cultivating and stewarding external partners/donors.
- Must be detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and disciplined.
- Ability to think strategically to identify and pursue new funding opportunities.
- Display a positive attitude, demonstrate presence and self‑confidence, and exhibit strong listening ability.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals, including high‑level corporate executives and managers.
- Work well with a team of like‑minded individuals to achieve internal goals and positive outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in non‑profit management or a related field such as marketing, communications, public relations, or business, and a minimum of 5 years of proven successful experience in the area of fundraising, grant‑writing, and development
- Indoors in an air‑conditioned/heated office, outdoors at a shelter, and offsite or on‑location for organization events/activities; limited exposure to animals
- Regular work hours are Monday to Friday, a minimum of 40+ hours per week
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required, especially around special events
- Will be required to maintain availability when away from the office if needed
