Fleet Maintenance Manager
Overview
Modern Controls is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Fleet Specialist to lead the company’s purchasing and fleet management functions across multiple states. This dual-purpose role is responsible for professionalizing procurement practices, strengthening vendor relationships, leveraging purchasing power, and ensuring cost-effective fleet operations. The position will directly manage OEM material spends, supplier performance, and all aspects of fleet lifecycle management, including GPS/telematics, leases, fuel programs, maintenance, registrations, and compliance.
The Procurement & Fleet Manager will play a key role in improving operational efficiency, controlling costs, and supporting Modern Controls’ growth as a leading provider of HVAC, Mechanical, and Building Automation services across the Mid-Atlantic region.
Responsibilities- Fleet Oversight & Compliance
- Manage all aspects of Modern Controls’ 150+ vehicle fleet across DE, MD, PA, NJ, DC, and VA.
- Coordinate leases, renewals, registrations, and insurance requirements.
- Develop fleet replacement and lifecycle strategies to minimize cost of ownership.
- Administer GPS/telematics systems to monitor driver safety, routing, and compliance.
- Generate reports on driver behavior, accidents, and fuel efficiency; partner with Safety/HR on corrective action.
- Fuel, Maintenance & Cost Control
- Oversee fuel card programs, monitor usage trends, and implement efficiency measures.
- Manage vendor relationships for maintenance, repairs, and spare vehicles.
- Track and forecast fleet-related expenses and savings; present data to leadership.
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules and emergency repair processes minimize downtime.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, fleet management, or operations within mechanical/HVAC or field services industries.
- Proven success negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and implementing cost-saving measures.
- Strong knowledge of telematics/GPS fleet systems and compliance requirements.
- Advanced Excel and ERP/field service software proficiency (Ford Pro/ Fleetio & Spectrum)
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- A strategic thinker with a results-driven approach to cost management.
