The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) is seeking an intern to support its Office of Communications and Engagement. This office leads a broad range of initiatives across four key areas:
Communications, Public Engagement, Civil Rights, and Special Initiatives.

The Engagement Planning Intern will contribute to various efforts by:

  • Researching best practices in public engagement and evaluating DVRPC’s current strategies
  • Drafting research memos and organizing outreach activities
  • Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
  • Assisting with the facilitation of public meetings and other engagement events

Depending on the intern’s skills and interests, responsibilities may also include:

  • Writing case studies and internal policy memos
  • Assisting with quantitative analysis and interactive exercises
  • Supporting report writing and public presentations

Potential Projects Include:

  • Supporting public engagement components of:
  • FY26 Supporting Communities
  • Regional Vision Zero
  • Assisting with the Public Participation Task Force, including meeting coordination and member communications
  • Research and writing for DVRPC’s Title VI, ADA, and public engagement policy efforts
  • Exploring the role of art in planning, in connection with DVRPC’s participation in Smart Growth America’s Culture & Community Network
Responsibilities

The student intern will support professional staff by contributing to a variety of planning activities, including:

  • Conducting in-depth research and data collection
  • Performing data analysis and assisting with report preparation

    Supporting meeting facilitation and stakeholder engagement
  • Participating as an active member of interdisciplinary project teams
  • Assisting in meetings with stakeholders, study advisory committees, and partner government agencies
Qualifications
  • Interest in regional and/or transportation planning
  • Enthusiasm for public engagement, community outreach, civil rights, and/or public health
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate geographic and statistical data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with coworkers and external partners
  • Excellent writing skills and a proactive approach to work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
  • Experience with GIS is a plus, but not required
Availability

Ability to start on September 2, 2025 is preferred. This position requires a commitment of up to 15 hours per week.

Compensation

$17 per hour for interns currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. $20 per hour for candidates currently pursuing a Master’s degree. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least ONE YEAR of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation engineering or planning.
