Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, within the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O), is hiring a Senior Electrician/ Maintenance Mechanic. This position works independently in a designated “zone” and reports directly to a second‑level supervisor.

Key responsibilities include:

• Guide and instruct staff in electrical duties for all university facilities.
• Estimate, procure materials, repair, and install electrical circuits, wiring, fixtures, and controls.
• Work independently based on work orders without instruction or assistance.
• Supervise craft trainees in electrical work.
• Perform general duties in other trade areas as needed.

Mid Range: 57,384.81
Maximum: 66,256.38

Work Shift:

Day (Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm)

AFSCME – Local 888.

• High school or vocational school education (or equivalent).
• Competent in complex repair and maintenance of electrical equipment, including 480‑volt industrial power wiring and switch gear.

• Qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey or completed an approved apprenticeship (minimum 3 years).
• Maintain journeyman certification while employed in the position.
• Valid driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience.
• Complete Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

• Good communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.

• Commercial Driver’s License (may be required).

• Shift hours:
  Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
• Clean driving record required.
