Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Electrician / Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The ideal candidate works independently in a “zone,” or as the only Electrician/Maintenance Mechanic on a particular campus reporting directly to a second‑line supervisor, or guides a group of Electrician/Maintenance Mechanics in the performance of a wide range of electrical and mechanical duties required for all University facilities.

Duties may arise from work orders that provide little or no instruction.

• Estimate work and procure appropriate materials for oneself or for a group.
• Guide and instruct craft trainees.
• Perform any duties required of the group.
• Be assigned to perform general duties in other trade areas.

• Competent in performing complex repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and circuitry, including industrial power wiring and switch gear for 480‑volt systems.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.

• High school/vocational school education or equivalent.

• Must be a qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey or have completed an apprenticeship training program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor of at least three years in duration.
• Must maintain journeyman certification while in the job title.
• A valid driver’s license with two years driving experience.
• Must complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
• May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.

Grade 18 – Minimum $48,729.88, Mid Range $57,384.81, Maximum $66,256.38.

Full Time, 40 hours per week, Day Shift, Staff – 12 month appointment. Union – AFSCME Local 888. Pension – PERS. Payroll Designation – People Soft.
