The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Research areas include plant biology, plant breeding, and turfgrass genetics. Students gain experiential learning on campus and in the surrounding research farm network.
Rutgers University is seeking a Seasonal Agricultural Worker – Turfgrass Breeding Program for the Department of Plant Biology. Under supervision, the Seasonal Agricultural Worker helps to establish and maintain turfgrass research areas on farm and in greenhouses.
Responsibilities- Handle watering, cutting, planting, establishing, and weeding research trials on research farms and in greenhouses.
- Assist in establishment of breeding trials, collect plant tissue, harvest seed, isolate/preparation/threshing, and weigh.
- Develop and utilize various plant propagation techniques.
- Assist PI or researchers in data collection and analysis.
- High school/vocational school education or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision once trained.
- Interest in plant biology, plant breeding, or related discipline (preferred).
- Experience working with plant care or in an agricultural field or farm setting (preferred).
- Work in extreme weather conditions (rainy, windy, cold temperatures).
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
