Postdoctoral Associate in Cell & Structural Biology
The Dai laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University is seeking a postdoctoral associate to aid in developing cellular tomography and cryo-focused ion beam milling for multiple collaborative projects. Core research focuses on protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and the structure and dynamics of membrane proteins. The lab is co‑located with the RCSB Protein Data Bank and has access to the Rutgers Cryo‑electron Microscopy and Nanoimaging Facility, as well as protein NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and high‑performance computing hardware.
Responsibilities- Develop and optimize cellular tomography and cryo‑focused ion beam milling techniques for collaborative projects.
- Establish and maintain primary neuronal and other mammalian cell cultures; generate recombinant DNA constructs and perform biochemical assays.
- Contribute to data analysis leveraging imaging, NMR, mass spectrometry, and computational resources.
- Collaborate with the broader Institute, partner labs, and external collaborators; communicate findings effectively.
- Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Structural Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in establishing primary neuronal cultures, mammalian cell cultures, recombinant DNA construction, and biochemical assays.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, macOS, and basic Linux command line.
- Experience with bioimaging preferred.
- Experience with cryo‑electron microscopy, correlative light and electron microscopy, or cryo‑focused ion beam is a plus.
The position is a general cell biology laboratory role that requires handling liquid nitrogen and ethane and lifting up to 30 pounds.
