Responsibilities
  • Performs experiments to reduce transition and rare earth metal ions to metals.
  • Performs nitridation studies on some or all of them.
Salary

$20 - $25 per hour.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Laboratory safety methodology, such as the appropriate use of fume hoods, hazardous organic and inorganic chemicals, and proper use of high‑temperature furnaces.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a laboratory.
  • Experience handling pyrophoric materials.
  • Familiarity with organic and inorganic chemistry.
  • Knowledge of inert atmosphere handling procedures.
Equipment Utilized
  • Schlenk glassware, glovebox usage and maintenance, particle size, thermal analysis, x‑ray diffraction, and infrared spectroscopy instrumentation.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying.

Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate's offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
