Program that will work at our state‑of‑the‑art Operating Room in our New Brunswick Campus.
Registered Nurse Periop 101 OR Foundations Program June Cohort
Oppurtunities in theMain Operating Room, Morris Cancer Center & Pediatric Operating Room
This Periop 101 course consists of 12 weeks of didactic education hours are 7:00 am-3:30 pm for this portion of the training and 12-16 weeks of clinical preceptorship designed to build confidence in clinical practice hours/shifts are variable for this part of the course. All classes are mandatory.
Upon successful completion of the Periop 101 Core curriculum course, the participant will assume a role as a Registered Nurse within the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Operating Room at the New Brunswick Campus.
There is no guarantee of a specific shift and/or standard working hours at the completion of the program as department needs will dictate what is available.
The RWJBH Nursing OR Foundations course is a robust, vigorous, immersive learning experience providing selected candidates with the needed tools for success in the Operating Room environment. This course incorporates multimodal teaching methods, including Simulation Labs. The Sim Labs are located at three learning centers in Livingston, Rahway and Fort Monmouth, to ensure consistent, evidence‑based, current RWJBH practice across the system.
Attendees must demonstrate competency in the basic tasks of perioperative nursing after the didactic portion of orientation.
Required:
- Active, valid New Jersey Registered Nurse license
- BSN required (or enrolled in a BSN program)
- Astrong desire to work in the Operating Room
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure surgical environment
- BSN or must be completed within 5 years upon hire
Required:
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
- Day Shift, 7:00AM – 3:30PM
- The work schedule is typically an 8 hour day shift including every other weekend.
- Full Time – 40 Hours a week
- As part of a care delivery team, the Operating Room Registered Nurse is critical in assuring safe, compassionate and competent care to all surgical patients.
- The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
- The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence‑based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
