RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) to join our Cardio‑Vascular Operating Room team at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and premier academic medical institution on the New Brunswick campus.

This is an exciting opportunity to practice at the highest level within a complex, high‑acuity cardiovascular surgical program, working alongside world‑class surgeons, anesthesia teams, and perioperative professionals committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and patient‑centered care.

The RNFA functions as an advanced perioperative nurse providing direct surgical first assist services during cardiovascular procedures. The RNFA works in collaboration with the attending surgeon and multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence‑based care throughout the intraoperative continuum.

• Providing intraoperative first assist services including tissue handling, suturing, hemostasis, vein harvesting and exposure.
• Anticipating surgical needs in complex cardiac and vascular procedures.
• Supporting optimal surgical flow and efficiency in a high‑acuity OR environment.
• Promoting patient safety and adherence to regulatory and quality standards.
• Collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and perioperative nursing staff.
• Participating in performance improvement initiatives and clinical advancement activities.
• On‑the‑job training and orientation to RWJUH workflows will be provided.

Required:

• Active, valid New Jersey Registered Nurse license.
• BSN required.
• BLS certification.
• ACLS certification.
• CNOR certification.
• Cardiac surgical experience required.

Preferred:

• MSN with CRNFA certification.
