Clinical Care Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories
- Develop and implement individualized patient care plans
- Administer medications safely according to physician orders and protocols
- Perform treatments and procedures (wound care, IV starts, catheterizations, etc.)
- Monitor patients' conditions and report changes to the healthcare team
- Respond to emergency situations quickly and effectively
- Document all care provided in the electronic health record system
- Educate patients and families about health conditions
- Provide discharge instructions and medication education
- Teach self-care techniques and health maintenance strategies
- Explain procedures and treatments before performing them
- Offer guidance on lifestyle modifications for chronic disease management
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
- Coordinate patient care between departments and during shift changes
- Facilitate patient transfers between units or to other facilities
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care conferences
- Arrange for necessary post-discharge services and follow-up care
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records
- Manage inventory of supplies for assigned patients

Requirements Registered Nurse (RN)Position Requirements Education and Licensures
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program (BSN often preferred by many employers)
- Current and valid RN license issued by the New Jersey Board of Nursing
- Must pass the NCLEX-RN examination
- Complete criminal background check
- Meet continuing education requirements for license renewal
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Depending on specialty:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or other specialty certifications
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Medication administration knowledge and competency
- Documentation skills using electronic health record systems
- Ability to interpret lab values and diagnostic test results
- Time management and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift patients, and perform other physical tasks
- Entry-level positions:
New graduate RNs may be accepted with clinical rotations experience - General positions: 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience often preferred
- Specialty positions:
Experience specific to the specialty area (e.g., ICU, ER, Labor & Delivery)
