Overview
General Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
JFK University Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to manage the evening care of our general surgery patients. In this role, you will be the primary advanced practice provider on the floor, working collaboratively with attending surgeons to ensure seamless, high-quality patient care. This is a non-operative role focused on inpatient management, patient rounding, and floor coverage.
You will be a cornerstone of the night team, responsible for patient assessment, developing plans of care, and ensuring a safe, reliable, and patient-centered experience.
Preferred Shift:
Five 8-hour shifts/week (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
or
Four 10-hour shifts/week (1:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
- Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations for post-operative and new inpatient admissions.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and health care needs.
- Develop, implement, and manage evidence-based plans of care in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Serve as a key point of communication between attending physicians, nursing staff, patients, and their families to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Maintain clear, concise, and accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Uphold the highest standards of clinical practice in accordance with state/federal regulations and hospital policies.
- Required: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Active New Jersey CDS and federal DEA licenses.
- Required: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program.
- Current New Jersey State RN and Advanced Practice Nurse licenses.
- National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., AANP, ANCC).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in General Surgery or a related acute care setting.
- Highly motivated new graduates with relevant clinical rotations are encouraged to apply.
- 2+ years of professional experience in a surgical or acute care inpatient setting is preferred.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Base Salary: $ Annually
