University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), part of Rutgers University, is dedicated to delivering physical, mental, dental, and sex offender treatment services to individuals in the New Jersey criminal justice system. With a $150 million budget and approximately 1,000 staff, UCHC focuses on compassionate, research-informed care within correctional environments.

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full‑time Licensed Practical Nurse for the Eighth Mahan Correctional Facility. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the LPN will administer total patient care, perform treatments and procedures, and provide a safe therapeutic environment.

• Initiate the admission process and identify recurrent health problems, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
• Collect data through observation, interview, and collaboration with the health team; communicate resident condition changes to care providers.
• Maintain the clinical area in a clean, neat, and safe manner; participate in required counts and cleaning assignments.
• Adhere to institutional and medical unit infection control policies.
• Maintain current professional skills and pursue ongoing professional growth to enhance correctional nursing practice and institutional image.

Salary Range: $32,520 – $34,010 per year.

• Valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver’s license; possession of a vehicle or alternative transportation to commute between facility sites.

• At least six (6) months of experience in an acute hospital setting.

Must be physically capable of performing CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Work is first‑responder in nature.

Candidate must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and comply with all DOC requirements.

Under Rutgers’ Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, prospective employees beginning work during Flu Season may be required to provide proof of seasonal influenza vaccination unless a medical or religious exemption is granted.
