The New Jersey 4-H Camp is located within Stokes State Forest in Branchville, NJ. For the duration of the 8-week summer camp season, June 22nd–August 16th, kitchen staff work to provide daily meals for the 175 campers and 50 staff members residing at the L.G. Cook 4-H Youth Center for Outdoor Education. Kitchen Staff are responsible for all elements of running a cleanly, effective, and friendly kitchen in our rustic residential environment.

The goal of the 4-H Camp kitchen is to serve consistent meals appealing to our youth-aged population, providing both sustenance and comfort. The menu will be accommodating to dietary needs and allergy restrictions. Kitchen Staff will be expected to guide counselor-level and volunteer kitchen assistants, and engage in active problem solving to overcome challenges and keep meals on schedule and ensure that the 4-H Camp population is happy, healthy, and fed.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Kitchen Chef/Staff for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

• Assists campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury), and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
• Operates a dishwasher and maintain the appropriate water temperature.
• Determines the cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and kitchen area; assess condition of food.
• Identifies and responds to environmental and other hazards, read prescriptions and health forms.
• Lifts/unloads/moves food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage location.
• Communicates effectively with staff and campers.
• Operates commercial grade kitchen equipment safely.

Salary Details: $15.92 - $25/hourly

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school/vocational school education or equivalent.
• Previous kitchen experience required including ordering food, overseeing and scheduling cooks.

Certifications/Licenses

• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and campers.
• Desire and ability to work with children over an extended period of time.

• Serv Safe Certification.
• Commercial grade oven, stove, warmer boxes, kettle, Hobart dishwasher.

• Must have the physical strength to lift/unload/move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage location.

• Seasonal communal housing may be available for some positions.
