Scientist, Bioassay Development – Potency and Impurity Analytical DevelopmentOur Biologics Development team is responsible for development and transfer of safe, efficient, and approvable biologics drug substance manufacturing processes and analytical methods for all of BMS’ biologics portfolio. We work closely with other BMS units to support our clinical pipeline through to late stages of clinical development. Bristol Myers Squibb is the world leader in Biotherapeutics for Immuno-Oncology. The Potency and Impurity Analytical Development (PIAD) department is the global center for biological potency assay development, biological characterization and clinical lot release. To enable the continuous expansion of our biologics pipeline, we are looking for experienced professionals passionate about bringing recombinant therapeutics to patients to address significant unmet medical need.
The Scientist, Bioassay Development has the opportunity to drive state-of-the-art potency assay development that supports the company’s portfolio of preclinical and clinical-stage biologics. The role requires a strong understanding of cell biology/immunology/molecular biology and expertise with the design and development of cell-based assays to assess protein function. The role calls for close collaboration with early discovery groups, process sciences groups, internal analytical functions, as well as with Commercial Analytical Science & Strategy and the Quality Control organization.
ResponsibilitiesDirectly accountable for bioassay development for early and late-stage development programs, development of fit-for-purpose biological characterization assays, assay qualification/validation, and strong collaboration with stakeholders in partner organizations.
Responsible for experimental design, execution, data review and analysis, document writing, and contributing to sections of regulatory submissions.
Participates in development of the analytical control strategy and anticipates and addresses technical, regulatory, and other business needs.
Generate and thoroughly document results and maintain instrumentation in a GMP-compliant environment.
Inspires innovation and operational excellence and fosters a continuous learning environment.
Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 0–2 years of experience;
or M.S. with 2–4 years of relevant experience;
or B.S. with 5–7 years of relevant experience.Typically, 0-2+ years directly applicable experience in biopharmaceutical development.
Strong technical knowledge of cell-based assay development.
Experience with using cell-based assays to assess protein structure/function relationships.
Experience in ELISAs.
BIACORE, FACS or automation experience would be advantageous.
Methodical, and committed to high-quality results.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Awareness of regulatory and compliance guidelines.
