Overview
Rutgers University – School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit includes 41 academic departments and offers more than 100 majors and minors across the life sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and mathematical and physical sciences. Key Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership for the SAS Office of Human Resources Academic team and the SAS Office of Human Resources Operations team.
- Recruit, appoint, and manage compensation, promotion, and career development for tenure‑track faculty, non‑tenure‑track faculty, lecturers, graduate assistants, post‑doctoral associates, fellows, and visiting scholars.
- Administer leave, salary, and benefit programs; oversee visa processing, department chair elections, and post‑tenure review.
- Lead development and execution of faculty retention, sabbatical, and competitive fellowship leave programs and manage grievance and discipline processes.
- Recommend, implement, and manage HR, payroll, absence, leave, training, and discipline procedures that support timely, accurate, and compliant activities for all academic personnel in SAS.
- Supervise, train, and manage the SAS Human Resources Academic team and the SAS Human Resources Operations team.
- Develop orientation, development, and recognition programs for the school.
- Serve as an advisor to SAS senior leadership and report on strategic initiatives and progress.
- Conduct data analysis of faculty‑student ratios, salary budgets, and leave utilization to support strategic planning and workforce budgeting.
- Participate on university committees and task forces and provide subject‑matter expertise on academic personnel matters.
- Master’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of faculty and staff human resources methodologies and current higher‑education practices.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of directly related experience in a leadership or managerial role that demonstrates effective management, team building, fiscal stewardship, and best practices research.
- Master’s degree preferred in Human Resources Management, Business, Management, or a related field.
- In‑depth knowledge of university‑wide policies, regulations, and governing documents related to faculty and staff personnel matters.
- Proficiency with complex database systems; experience creating and analyzing large data sets for human resources decision‑making; familiarity with statistical modeling, Tableau, and financial data analysis.
- Experience with human resources information systems, including HRIS, payroll, and financial management systems used by Rutgers.
