Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III at the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Radiation Oncology Department. The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist (RTS III) position is to conduct specialized research under the direction of the Principal Investigator, using judgment to adapt methods and techniques. The RTS III may be responsible for the management of a small laboratory area and will assist the Principal Investigator with budgetary, training and administrative responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Works under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Assists in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of methodology and instrumentation.
  • Carries out various technical and research operations relating to investigatory activities of the laboratory.
  • Maintains regulatory approvals for human and animal subjects, including records and documentation for appropriate protocols; ensures IRB/IACUC protocols are up to date and conducts follow‑up as needed.
  • Organizes and conducts specialized research activities for specific projects and acts as the point person for external collaborators.
  • Supports routine transactions and inquiries (e.g., answering queries, researching answers and routing inquiries as needed).
  • Assists in developing and carrying out translational and clinical research, including communicating with research subjects and patients participating in clinical trials.
  • Instructs and trains students, fellows and technicians in various techniques and procedures to develop the necessary skills for laboratory assignments.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Master’s degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, to facilitate attendance at conferences and ability to publish scientific research papers/articles and reports.
