Position Summary:
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Habilitation Counselor in the Child & Adolescent Services – School & Community Based Program of Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Supervising Habilitation Counselor is to serve as a supervisor for Habilitation Counselors within the Middlesex County NJ4S Hub team. Serves as the team leader for Habilitation Counselors.
In addition, will be expected to provide direct care program services as needed. Also serves as a customer services role model and establishes alliances with community organizations and services providers. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs and applying relevant treatment approaches for children (0-12 years), adolescents (13-17 years) and young adults (18-21 years).
- Provides supervisory oversight to Habilitation Counselors.
- Participates effectively in personnel matters relating to Habilitation Counselors according to unit standards as indicated by feedback from other staff members and supervisory observation.
- Provides training and administrative supervision to Habilitation Counselors in a professional and helpful manner as indicated by feedback from Habilitation Counselors and supervisory feedback as documented in continuing education record.
- Coordinates functions of Habilitation Counselors in unit according to established policies and procedures, as observed by supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in appropriate behavioral health discipline or relevant field.
- Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently. Hearing is essential.
- The ability to focus on the task at hand despite numerous interruptions.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and document into an electronic medical record.
- The employee spends much time driving, walking, standing, bending, and talking with individuals served in the community located throughout the state.
- Occasional transport of individuals served in state or rental vehicles.
- The employee can expect to lift up to 30 pounds.
- The work environment includes clinic and community-based services and outreach.
- Subject to unpredictable situations and crises, to include behavioral, medical, and psychiatric.
- Occasionally exposed to individuals exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
