Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Per Diem UCHC Technician I for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center located in Avenel, NJ. The Technician I will participate as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the prison.
Key Responsibilities- Takes vital signs, height, and weight and documents them in the electronic medical records (EMR).
- Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examination.
- Obtains specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
- Assists with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
- Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner. Maintains the supply stock in the examination rooms and aggregates all medication orders to forward to pharmacy or local provider.
Salary: $18.45 per hour (Nonexempt). This rate may be adjusted based on qualifications, experience, and available funding.

- Valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
- At least two (2) years of progressively responsible healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and ability and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position.
- CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation to travel between sites.
The role requires the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds.
Special ConditionsCandidate must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
Immunization RequirementsUnder Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during flu season, Rutgers University may require prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against seasonal influenza for the current flu season unless the University has granted a medical or religious exemption.
