The Role
Techno is seeking an experienced Track Inspector to support construction and rehabilitation efforts on a major rail facility project in Northern New Jersey. This role plays a critical part in ensuring rail systems are constructed, maintained, and rehabilitated to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. This is an ideal opportunity for a rail professional who understands the technical complexities of track systems and wants to be involved in impactful transportation improvements.
WhatYou'll Do
- Inspect track construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance activities including rail installation, ties, ballast, switches, and turnouts.
- Monitor contractor compliance with approved track alignment, geometry, and installation standards.
- Review and interpret track plans, profiles, and cross‑sections.
- Verify proper installation of track components including fasteners, anchors, plates, and special trackwork.
- Coordinate with signal, civil, and systems teams to ensure integrated rail operations.
- Observe testing and quality control procedures related to track installation and surfacing.
- Maintain detailed daily inspection reports and document deficiencies or corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and railroad operational requirements.
- 7+ years of experience in railroad track inspection or construction oversight.
- Strong knowledge of track geometry, rail systems, ballast, ties, and special trackwork.
- Familiarity with railroad safety standards and construction sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret rail plans and specifications.
- Experience working in active rail environments.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Prior experience working on projects for NJ TRANSIT or similar public transportation agencies, particularly on rail yard or rail facility improvement projects is highly beneficial.

The expected salary range for this role in New Jersey is $63 – $73 per hour. Total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process.
