Salary for an assistant professor will not be less than $82,110
, based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union (AAUP-AFT) and Rutgers University. The final salary offer may be determined by candidate qualifications, experience, expertise, department or grant funds, market benchmarks, and internal equity.

Posting Summary

The Department of Anthropology seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in sociocultural anthropology, with a particular emphasis on the dynamic intersections of Language, Culture, and Power. The successful candidate will teach core courses in linguistic anthropology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and develop new courses that address the relationships between language and power. Preference will be given to scholars whose expertise bridges language, ethnography, and other research areas, crossing subfields within sociocultural anthropology.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education and Experience:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field by August 2026.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require proof of vaccination against seasonal influenza for the current Flu Season, unless a medical or religious exemption is granted.
