Instructor/Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Animal Sciences
Recruiting for a non‑tenure‑track (calendar‑year) faculty position in the Department of Animal Science, Rutgers University, School of Environmental & Biological Sciences (SEBS).
OverviewThis appointment serves as a bridge between practical experience and academic scholarship, providing experiential instruction in equine and animal‑science courses for the undergraduate Animal Science major. The successful candidate will design, deliver, and assess hands‑on courses and facilitate industry‑based internships and field‑study opportunities. They will also support student advising, curriculum development, and administrative duties that advance the department’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and teach courses in the Pre‑Veterinary Medicine/Research, Companion Animal Science, and Equine and Production Animal Science options.
- Deliver hands‑on instruction at the university farm and through industry partnerships.
- Create and oversee internship and field‑based learning experiences that connect students with equine operations, veterinary practices, and research environments.
- Advise undergraduate students and provide career guidance in animal science.
- Contribute to course assessment, inclusive curriculum development, and other administrative duties.
- Advanced degree (doctorate) in equine or animal science discipline.
- Documented experience in professional practice and/or notable accomplishments as a practitioner.
- Teaching experience appropriate for the courses to be taught.
- Record of scholarship and/or practice appropriate to the appointment.
- Assistant Professor level requires at least 4 years of teaching and/or related experience.
- Strong background in equine science, animal science, biological science, or veterinary science and demonstrated engagement with industry stakeholders.
12‑month (calendar year) non‑tenure‑track faculty position.
