Posting Summary

Rutgers University is seeking a GEAR UP Instructor for the Provost & EVC for Academic Affairs. The instructor will provide academic services in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies for 7th–12th grade New Brunswick Public School (NBPS) students under the NJ GEAR UP State Project. The role includes planning, implementing, and monitoring curriculum, delivering instruction during the bi‑weekly GEAR UP Saturday Academy (January–May) and the 6‑week Summer Program (July–mid‑August), and contributing to student development.

Key

Duties
  • Provides meaningful and planned instruction to participants during the GEAR UP Saturday and/or Summer Program.
  • Prepares and submits enriching lesson plans prior to instruction, emphasizing project‑based learning.
  • Assists participants and program staff to establish and maintain acceptable classroom behavior and standards.
  • Communicates regularly with the Director to ensure the academic development of participants.
  • Assesses and reports on participants’ progress by administering pre‑ and post‑assessment instruments.
  • Chaperones field trips and college tours.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience working with middle or high school student populations, teacher training, instructional leadership, or a specific academic content area.
Certifications / Licenses
  • NJ or NY teaching certificate.
Salary

$30 – $40 per hour (depending on qualifications, experience, and available funding). This is a non‑exempt, hourly position.

Work Arrangement
  • Part‑time, 5–16 hours per week.
