Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program—Associate ProfessorCentral Connecticut State University (Central) invites applications for Director of its Doctor of Physical Therapy program. This position is housed in Central's College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (CHRS), which launched in August, 2024. The successful candidate will be a teacher/scholar who has the credentials to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor. We seek applicants who demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to excellence in physical therapy education, and experience in teaching, scholarship and service within the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Aboutthe College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
As of Fall 2025, CHRS serves 1,743 students consisting of 1,323 undergraduate students and 420 graduate students. CHRS prepares the next generation of healthcare professionals through experiential learning and a community-focused approach and houses the following academic departments:
Counselor Education and Family Therapy;
Nursing;
Nurse Anesthesia Practice;
Physical Education and Human Performance; and Social Work. The College offers undergraduate degrees in nursing, social work, and exercise science; master's degrees in athletic training, counselor education, marriage and family therapy, and nursing: hospice and palliative care; a post-master's certificate in professional counseling; and a Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice.
The Program Director is responsible for:
- Curriculum development
- Establishing program requirements, student‑learning outcomes, and assessments
- Hiring faculty
- Designing facilities
- Working with colleges and universities in the region
This role provides the opportunity to work with faculty and administration at Central; CAPTE staff; staff at the Connecticut State Colleges and University system office; faculty and staff from other colleges and universities in the region; physical therapists and physical therapy providers; healthcare professionals; and students. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys a challenge of this nature and the satisfaction of developing a program that will have a significant impact not only on Central and its students, but also on the local community of New Britain and the wider New England Region.

Education
- All applicants must possess an academic doctorate.
Other Required qualifications
- A current license to practice physical therapy in the USA;
- The academic credentials necessary to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor at Central.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience administering an academic or clinical program;
- Experience overseeing clinical operations of a health care clinic;
- Experience as a practicing physical therapist;
- Experience with curricular development and student learning outcomes assessment;
- Knowledge of the accreditation standards and process of CAPTE;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- At least six years of full‑time experience in higher education, at least three of which must be as a full‑time Core Faculty member in a CAPTE‑accredited program;
- A record of community engagement;
- A commitment to shared governance and experience working within a collective‑bargaining environment.
