Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic performs all types of mechanical jobs throughout the assigned area. Maintains plant equipment and facilities to meet operating requirements and objectives, during and outside of regular operation schedules and maintenance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance mechanic assignments on plant equipment and facilities
  • Collect data for preventative and predictive plant maintenance projects
  • Perform millwright assignments such as bearing replacement, alignment of equipment, and inspection and repair of power transmission according to plant standards
  • Perform welding and cutting assignments such as fabrication of plant equipment and structures and repair of worn process equipment according to plant standards
  • Inspect lubrication for mechanical equipment, record data for running equipment, take lab samples as required, drain oil and change oil and filters on all equipment oil reservoirs
  • Perform pipefitter assignments to install, maintain and inspect existing and future piping structures on all types of piping systems
  • Operate mobile equipment to assist with completing maintenance assigned duties
  • Perform plumbing inspection and repair on plant equipment and facilities
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior mechanical experience/welding experience, training or certification required
  • Prior plant maintenance mechanic experience is a plus
  • Bi-lingual (a plus)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to follow not only simple, but complex oral and written instructions and handle problems from standardized situations
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math and conversions of units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems
  • Ability to read and understand English to read technical manuals, reports, and instructions including safety issues
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers and outside contractors
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and machinery breakdowns and respond accordingly
  • Ability to identify and select appropriate materials and equipment for mechanical work and repairs
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform work safely and productively
Working Conditions
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, and outdoor work
  • Must wear protective equipment on site
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform all job functions which may include walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and operating controls
  • Heavy work: exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly
  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly in a safety-sensitive environment
