Job summary
Performs a variety of general labor tasks in a pit, quarry, or preparation plant. Laborers generally perform duties during rotating shifts varying with business hours, under direct supervision. This role interfaces with operations at the location and requires accurate and timely work to support the overall operation.
Responsibilities- Shovel muck, stone, gravel, sand from around conveyors
- Shovel material onto conveyors
- General housekeeping in the pit, plant, office, and quarry facilities
- Clean working areas using high pressure water
- Dig and maintain drainage ditches
- Assist mechanics and other personnel in procuring and moving parts, material, and equipment
- Assist with scheduled maintenance and major repairs
- Assist with cleaning parts, material, and equipment
- Perform job functions during mandatory overtime as assigned
- Replace or assist other workers as needed, including operating mobile and plant equipment
- Perform other tasks as assigned by lead worker or supervisor
- Adhere to CEMEX and OSHA safety rules and wear protective equipment
- Prior experience required, equivalent to thirty days or more of training or experience
- Ability to perform emergency rescue
- Ability to follow routine work while maintaining performance standards
- General knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Proper operation of equipment
- Ability to perform duties efficiently as observed and verified
- Ability to understand simple instructions
- Basic math skills and measurement literacy
- Read, write, and speak English
- Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond appropriately
- Willingness to develop mechanical and/or welding skills for future promotion
- Scheduled shift hours with flexibility for overtime and weekends
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise; outdoor work
- Must wear protective equipment on site
- Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing
- Heavy work: exert up to 100 lb occasionally, up to 50 lb frequently, up to 20 lb constantly
- Frequent talking and hearing required for safe operation
- Ability to operate controls as needed
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment
