Lifeguard

INTERVIEWS WILL BEGIN THE WEEK OF MARCH 16, 2026.

Performs responsible semi-skilled and technical work in conducting aquatic safety, lifesaving and first aid techniques; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Head Lifeguard.
Observing, maintaining, enforcing and supervising aquatic center swimming, activities and program rules.

(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

• Monitors activities in aquatic center;
• Performs lifesaving rescues, renders first aid and CPR/lifesaving techniques as necessary, calls 911 and coordinates with Emergency Medical Services;
• Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of pool and surrounding areas;
• Monitors pool chemical levels and reports problems;
• Enforces rules and regulations, policies and procedures;
• Registers participants;
• Supervises conduct of participants;
• Performs related tasks as required.

Thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR and lifesaving techniques; thorough knowledge of the proper usage of emergency water safety equipment; basic knowledge of pool chemicals and water testing procedures; ability to enforce rules in effective, tactful and courteous manner ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public.

Minimum age of 15.

Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent) and First Aid/CPR/AED. A Lifeguard Certification/Recertification class will be offered in-house. The date of the class is TBD.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ARE REQUIRED ON FINAL INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CANDIDATE(S) APPLYING.
