Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to provide surveillance and monitoring of disease trends in the county and initiate proper control measures.
Program Coordination and Management- Plan, coordinate and manage the Communicable Disease Program.
- Establish program goals, policies and guidelines with the Adult Health Supervisor and Nursing Director.
- Make modifications in the program as new standards occur, compile annual reports and assemble relevant program data.
- In instances where a disease outbreak requires additional staff determine number required, train and coordinate that staff.
- Review all pertinent documentation for accuracy and compliance with proper standards.
- Make budgetary recommendations to the supervisor and Program Manager to accomplish the goals of the program.
- Review all communicable disease reports received in NCEDSS.
- Follow-up each reportable disease according to guidelines.
- Notify environmental sanitarian of any condition which may be related to food or water.
- Assist sanitarian in food related follow-up in restaurants, day care, etc.
- Responsible for maintenance of Communicable Disease Report Log.
- Serve as Epidemiology Team Chairperson, schedule meetings, set agenda and distribute, coordinate speakers or special guest as needed.
- Coordinate services for contacts with State Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS).
- Monitor Hepatitis B carriers.
- Coordinate with Child Health to ensure infants born to Hep-B surface antigen mothers receive appropriate immunization or follow-up.
- Serve as a representative for the Communicable Disease Program within the community.
- Obtain patient/family history.
- Collection of appropriate testing and route to lab.
- Provide education/counseling/referral to appropriate resource/follow up.
- Treatment according to findings/standing orders.
- Other duties deemed necessary by the Adult Health Supervisor, Nursing Director or Health Director.
- Serve as back-up to the Tuberculosis nurse.
- Administer immunizations as assigned.
- In times of disaster, will function as a health professional in a Red Cross Shelter.
- In the event of a disaster, may be required to assist as needed.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
