Development Engineer – Safety and Regulatory Compliance - Regional contact on appliance safety and regulatory compliance related topics. Responsible for the safety and sanitation certification program, provide guidance and ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, regulations and policies related to product safety. Assist in regulatory relations associated with development and revision of appliance safety and sanitation related specifications, regulations and test procedures.

Assist in establishing systems and methods, developing policies and procedures, involving necessary internal and external resources. Responsible for requesting required testing, evaluation of test results, and maintenance of records.

• Responsible for obtaining product approvals (i.e., UL, CSA, NSF, DOE, Etc).
• Assisting engineering in the area of product development to meet regulatory requirements.
• Track and monitor changes to existing products and coordinate approval testing and submittal process.
• Research, interpret and summarize proposed revisions to regulations and standards.
• Responsible for communications/relationships to certification agencies and test institutes, but not limited to, UL, CSA, and NSF International.
• Organize product and component testing.
• Support cost reductions and quality improvements and implement on current products.
• Coordinate test criteria and test equipment/fixtures.
• Interpreting and analysis of data.
• Creating internal test procedures, and specialized test equipment as needed.
• Provide training to personnel concerning test procedures.
• Participate as engineering representative in product safety reviews.
• Providing Customer Service Support to Quality and Service Groups.
• Participating in Regulatory meetings and conferences as required.
• Guiding engineering in the area of product development to meet regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical support for legal issues related to product safety.
• Developing and maintaining Lab approval as related to Data Acceptance Program (ISO 17025) and oversight of Certification Agency Testing and Procedures.
• Support other product area’s concerning product safety certification as needed.

Four-Year College (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering) – Required

7-10 Years (Regulatory Compliance of appliances) – Required

10+ Years (Regulatory Compliance of appliances) – Preferred

• Engineering, development procedures and practices, problem solving, budget management, decision analysis, cost analysis, project management, product testing.
• Ability to interact with all levels of workplace personnel.
• Good communication skills, good analysis skills, adaptability, knowledge of physical principles and how things work.
• Ability to make decisions in uncertainty. Ability to apply statistical techniques.
• Knowledge of National and Local Electrical and Plumbing codes.
• Literature research and constructive use of consultants.
• Good technical vision and imagination.
• Knowledge of MSOffice software;
  Excel and Word required.
• Product development knowledge of residential appliances
• Detailed product development knowledge of dishwashing products.
• Expert knowledge of Test Equipment and Test Standards.
• Expert knowledge of Certification Processes and Agencies.
• Expert knowledge of applied Engineering principles in electrical, mechanical and materials disciplines.
