Overview

The Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial activities for the company. This role ensures the financial health and performance of the company while providing strategic and financial guidance. The Controller maintains fiduciary, leadership, and operational oversight, even when delegating responsibilities to subordinates. This position also supports related companies through monitoring, auditing, and making recommendations, and may serve in a backup leadership role across divisions, operations, bidding, and negotiations.

In collaboration with other company controllers, the Controller helps align policies and practices to promote efficiency and implement best practices across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with operational leadership to develop strategic plans and objectives
  • Work with financial leadership to provide accounting/finance guidelines for the entire organization
  • Establish and improve policies, procedures, schedules, standards, and current flow charts of all major processes for the department and company
  • Review monthly contract billings and initiate corrective actions where required
  • Maintain internal auditing and reconciliation procedures to ensure consistent company-wide accounting practices
  • Participate with IT and Operations in reviewing functions of ERP system
  • Identify outdated accounting procedures and workflow bottlenecks; recommend solutions
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and that all practices comply with company policy, GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Consistently review insurance needs of the organization and work to ensure adequate risk coverage
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and manage financial planning and forecasting
  • Manage engagements with external auditors (including financial audits, tax preparations, and other special projects)
  • Manage contractual relationships including bonding, banking, insurance, legal, and other key business relationships
  • Oversee Owner/Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP/CCIP)
  • Ensure effective treasury management including cash flow analysis, disbursement authorization, working capital requirements, and line of credit
  • Facilitate licensing requirements for various states, counties, cities, and occupations
  • Maintain current database of various licenses
  • Understand and facilitate proper sales tax reporting in all applicable jurisdictions
  • Assess the quarterly financial statement, balance sheet, WIP analysis and P&L
  • Manage performance reviews and development plans
  • Pursue team development opportunities and ensure effective training
  • Partner with senior financial leadership to develop succession plans for accounting and finance functions
  • Evaluate business support function structures and team development plans for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of all business support functions
  • Develop the capacity and promotability of reports and cross-train in all functions
  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bring it to their attention
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company; support goal of achieving zero accidents
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel
Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of related accounting/financial experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of all relevant Federal, State, and local requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to company values
  • Competence to maintain strict confidentiality of company information
