Overview
PACE, Inc. is seeking a qualified Cook to join our Head Start Program team! Head Start and Early Head Start provide family-centered child development programming for over 300+ income-eligible families with children from birth to age 5 living in the Greater New Bedford area. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills:
Responsibilities- Prepare nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks) for preschool children and classroom staff in Head Start and Early Head Start programs, in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
- Prepare meals consistently using best nutrition and food processing practices.
- Plan and prepare meals for over 300+ children daily; operate within budget and procurement practices (quantity food purchasing).
- Ensure compliance with sanitation, food safety practices, and all state and federal credentialing and professional development requirements.
- Maintain physical ability to climb stairs, stand, bend, walk continuously, and lift/carry items weighing up to 60 lbs.
- Pass CORI and DCF background checks as required.
- Meet driving and credential requirements as applicable.
- High School diploma or GED (preferred). Minimum of two (2) years of experience in meal preparation for large programs is desirable.
- Experience in quantity food purchasing.
- Knowledge of proper sanitation and food safety practices.
- School food service experience preferred.
- SERV Safe certification required.
- Valid driver s license required.
- Ability to comply with state and federal mandates pertaining to credentials and professional development.
- Ability to pass CORI and DCF background checks.
Compensation: $20.96 – $25.96 per hour, plus an additional $1.00 per hour for dual-language speakers; 35 hours per week; 42–52 weeks per year.
