Job Title: Technician – Fiber Installation / Splicing/Testing
Location: New Albany, Ohio
Position OverviewUNICON is seeking experienced Fiber Technicians to support a large data center infrastructure project in New Albany, Ohio. This role will focus on installing, splicing, and testing high‑count fiber connections within a data center environment. Technicians will work directly with fiber distribution panels to ensure proper connectivity and verify that fiber circuits are active and functioning properly.
Key Responsibilities- Perform fusion splicing of fiber optic cables
- Install and terminate fiber connections into fiber patch panels and distribution frames
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR and light testing equipment
- Verify that fiber circuits are active by confirming light signal connectivity ("hot")
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues within fiber panels and network racks
- Maintain accurate splice documentation and testing results
- Follow all safety procedures and data center operational protocols
- Inside plant work within a data center environment
- Work performed within server rack aisles and network panel rows
- Environment may be loud due to cooling systems and equipment
- PPE such as hearing protection and safety gear may be required
- Experience installing or maintaining fiber optic infrastructure
- Fusion splicing experience
- Experience testing fiber connections using OTDR or light testing equipment
- Ability to read fiber schematics and installation diagrams
- Data center or telecom infrastructure environment experience
- Experience working with fiber patch panels / distribution frames
- Structured cabling experience (Cat5/Cat6)
