Position OverviewUNICON is seeking a Senior / Lead Fiber Technician to support a large-scale data center infrastructure project in New Albany, Ohio. This role will focus on overseeing fiber installation, splicing, and testing activities within a high-availability data center environment.
The Lead Technician will play a key role in ensuring fiber connections are properly installed, fused, and tested across fiber distribution panels. This individual will also assist with troubleshooting connectivity issues, verifying signal integrity, and guiding technicians to ensure installations meet project and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced fusion splicing and termination of high-count fiber optic cables
- Install and manage fiber connections within fiber distribution panels and patch panels
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, light source, and power meter equipment
- Verify active fiber circuits and confirm proper signal connectivity ("hot")
- Troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues within panels, racks, and fiber distribution systems
- Review fiber schematics, splice diagrams, and installation documentation
- Ensure accurate documentation of splice logs, test results, and installation records
- Provide guidance and technical direction to junior technicians when needed
- Ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with project standards
- Inside plant work within a large data center environment
- Work performed within server aisles and network rack rows
- Environment may be loud due to cooling systems and operational equipment
- Work may include extended shifts and overtime depending on project needs
- 5+ years of fiber optic installation, splicing, or telecommunications infrastructure experience
- Strong experience with fusion splicing and fiber testing tools
- Experience working with fiber patch panels, distribution frames, or cross-connect systems
- Ability to read fiber schematics and installation drawings
- Experience troubleshooting fiber connectivity issues
- Data center or hyperscale infrastructure experience
- Experience supporting large telecommunications or network infrastructure deployments
- Industry certifications such as FOA, ETA, or BICSI
- Experience working in structured cabling environments
