About

The Role

As a Lead Cable Technician, you will oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network cabling infrastructure within data center environments. In this role, you will guide and support a team of technicians, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will collaborate with stakeholders, interpret technical documentation, and maintain compliance with industry best practices.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for mentoring others while driving operational excellence.

What You Will Do
  • Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
  • Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain data center cleanliness.
  • Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation/redline work.
  • Possess a broad understanding of data center infrastructure technologies.
What You Will Need
  • Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
  • Capable of leading a crew of 1-5 technicians.
  • Understand customer service, perform job walks, and communicate with customers for job requirements.
  • Accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by you and/or employees who directly report to you.
  • Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
  • Able to read and understand job floor plans.
  • Familiar with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
  • Able to pull all types of low voltage cables.
  • Capable of performing field terminations and labeling.
  • Maintain orderly paperwork, capable of running midsize to large projects and service jobs.
  • Skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable, and perform all types of terminations; include basic understanding of fiber equipment, all types of cable, and fiber terminations.
  • Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
  • Capable of working in data centers.
  • Experience with analog, DSL, and extending T1 lines.
  • Patch network equipment as needed.
  • Report to Operations Manager and take daily directions from technicians of varying seniority.
  • Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting.
  • Perform job walks and maintain paperwork for service jobs.
  • Perform copper/fiber term, test, splice, and troubleshoot tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with foreman, leads, and technicians.
  • Understand metrics/SLA's and track performance.
  • Knowledge of network handover procedures.
  • Track lessons learned as they occur.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC on quality status walks.
  • Understand project close out processes.
  • Identify technicians' strengths and weaknesses.
