The Facility Specialist, Maintenance/Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient condition of the facility and equipment. Will perform maintenance and complete simple repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, mechanical, electrical, or custodial.
Responsibilities- Maintain the condition of the building and equipment. Perform general maintenance and simple repairs in plumbing, carpentry, painting, mechanical, electrical, or custodial work. May assist other departments in the operation. Follow instructions and pre-established procedures to perform daily tasks.
- Execute and maintain preventative maintenance systems for the building and equipment; perform routine and long-term preventative maintenance to keep systems at optimum operating levels. Collaborate with site management on routine inspections (e.g., material handling equipment, heating and cooling systems, mechanical/electrical, plumbing).
- Inspect, maintain, and repair the building and equipment; ensure daily operation of building and material handling equipment; report any problems.
- Identify, report, and correct safety hazards to ensure a safe work site during repairs or maintenance.
- Identify sources of problems, make recommendations for resolution, and perform emergency repairs to equipment and furnishings. Exercise judgment to determine methods and priorities of work.
- Operate equipment including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, sweeper scrubbers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, pallet jacks, and related hand/power tools. Maintain an active forklift certification and adhere to basic safety forklift guidelines.
- Perform or assist in grounds maintenance as assigned.
- Safety, housekeeping, and compliance: promote safety in all tasks; maintain organization and cleanliness of warehouse/work area; comply with SOPs, policies, safety/work rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Other duties as assigned and support HSE programs and site safety responsibilities including reporting, audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, EMS procedures, and training as required.
- Collaborate with site management and corporate safety personnel, act as DSV representative with regulatory agencies as needed, and ensure compliance with HSE laws and regulations.
- Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Support risk assessments, safe work practices, and EMS drills; communicate HSE goals, action plans, and results; monitor and report KPI scores.
- Review and develop HSE policies annually; advise senior managers on best-practice policies; stay current with legislation and DSV HSE processes.
- Ensure OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and training compliance; provide training for new hires.
- Represent the operation with local/global health, safety, and environmental bodies; promote environmental management and sustainability integration into policies and operations; manage USEPA and other reporting when applicable.
- Communicates problems to site leadership and implements solutions to minimize risk; follow all safety procedures; manage equipment, supplies, documents, and materials related to the job.
- Comply with all DSV policies and procedures; adhere to federal, state, and local regulations; communicate with all staff levels as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of general facilities, systems maintenance, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work in warehouse temperatures; experience in logistics/distribution environments is preferred (3 years).
- Experience with safety observations/inspections and compliance strategies; knowledge of safety and health management systems.
- Preferred: forklift/MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operation.
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); RF scanners; WMS familiarity. - Language:
English (reading, writing, verbal). - Mathematical:
Basic math;
Other: ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues, read manuals, spot problems, and take initiative; strong communication, organization, and teamwork; ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment; able to work outside and in a warehouse environment; tolerate overtime; cross-training readiness. - Preferred: knowledge of facilities and systems maintenance in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, mechanical systems; prior/current material handling equipment experience.
