The Data Center Technician III is responsible for installing hardware into racks, asset tagging and scanning, cabling, data center maintenance, and documenting processes and server installations.
Scope- Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative
- Makes recommendations for solutions
- Works within established guidelines and takes ownership of results
- May act as a mentor to less experienced team members
- Install, move, and decommission data center hardware, including cabinets, shelves, power strips, rails, servers, storage devices, and fiber/copper cabling
- Perform cable management and ensure proper routing per standards
- Confirm, label, and document devices, racks, and cabling
- Work within a standard ticketing system, providing clear and timely communication
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), program policies, safety policies, and security policies
- Work under the direction of site operations leadership
- Perform additional duties as required (this list is not exhaustive)
- High school diploma or GED with 5–8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrates strong judgment in selecting methods and techniques to resolve issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to respond to on-call requests within one (1) hour when scheduled
- Proven experience with structured cabling systems (power, copper, fiber) following ticket requirements and SOPs
- Experience working with CAT5e and CAT6 copper cabling, as well as single-mode and multi-mode fiber
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments
- Strong organizational skills
- Working knowledge of computer hardware and networking components
- Familiarity with copper and fiber testing tools
- Understanding of data center best practices (e.g., fault tolerance, cable routing, power calculations)
- Knowledge of data center electrical, HVAC, bandwidth infrastructures, and fiber/copper topologies
- Ability to operate material‑handling equipment such as server lifts, pallet jacks, and forklifts (where certified)
- Ability to learn new software and systems
- Must have reliable transportation to work locations
- Industry certifications related to data center technologies
- Hands‑on experience with electrical, HVAC, and data center infrastructure
- Working knowledge of networking components and infrastructures, including Wi‑Fi
- Physically assist with moving and racking equipment
- Ability to safely lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to move throughout a data center or office environment
- Ability to use a computer and communicate effectively
- Some roles may require repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, or fingers
