Medical Assistant – JIS Orthopedics, New Albany
Full‑time position (Monday through Friday 7:30 am‑4:00 pm, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm with a 30‑minute lunch break).
Location:
New Albany clinic.
Responsible for general medical‑assistant functions such as history & physical (H&P), communication with physicians and staff, and cleaning of exam rooms. Handles physician messages.
General Responsibilities- Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required.
- Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
- Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.
- Consistently respond to changing situations flexibly to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
- Attend required annual in‑service programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures, adhere to established facility safety requirements, and identify potentially unsafe situations to notify the supervisor.
- Escort patients to room.
- Complete EMR intake at the time of service.
- Review H&P for new patients and/or new problems; complete prior to physician exam.
- Provide medical assistance as needed (casting, suture removal, draws, injections, record prescriptions).
- Give instructions to patients regarding cast issues.
- Assist with physical therapy requests, sick‑leave requests, school notes.
- Assign coding procedures performed and diagnoses determined by physician; document on encounter form.
- Review encounter form for completeness and accuracy of coding, ensuring all procedures and supplies are noted.
- Receive and reply to medical‑related messages and prescription requests from patients; record in patient record.
- Communicate with physicians and staff.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations for biohazardous disposal.
- Order medical supplies as needed.
- Assist with medical records filing when necessary.
- Dispose of expired medications.
- Facilitate scheduling of outpatient testing and pre‑certification for MRI, CT, bonescan, Dexascan, and other tests as necessary.
- Maintain exam rooms and clinic work areas clean and tidy at all times for the next scheduled clinic.
- Travel to satellite offices if necessary.
- Assist with scheduling outpatient testing and pre‑certifications.
- Obtain readings for MRIs and X‑rays for physician review and diagnosis; may require travel and follow‑up with local radiologists.
- Contact ancillary services to align follow‑up care and promote communication between all parties.
- Develop a streamlined process for messages, written or verbal, to patient after review with physician.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be friendly, courteous, and have good communication skills when greeting patients.
Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 25 lbs. Average lift
