ResponsibilitiesThe Charge Nurse supervises and supports a nursing staff, while also treating a limited number of patients. They maintain a high level of patient care, evaluate other nurses and act as an educational resource.
Key Responsibilities- An experienced registered nurse who displays leadership, management and communication skills, managing and supervising the nursing staff in the operating room and providing administrative support and patient care.
- Direct the admission, discharge and general flow of patients into the operating room and assign nurses and support staff to patients/rooms; prioritize and adapt during emergencies.
- Provide guidance on administering care to new patients or those with special needs and answer questions regarding operating room protocol; develop and implement training courses and organize needs assessments to educate new nurses and staff.
- Create schedules, maintain adequate supplies and inform staff of protocol changes; plan budgets for the nursing staff in some settings.
- Provide patient care, including circulatory responsibilities in a surgical room; the number of patients and difficulty varies with schedule.

- Promote highest standards of clinical nursing care.
- Lead, manage and supervise Staff Nurses.
- Provide person-centered care to residents.
- Complete one-to-one supervision sessions and appraisals for Staff Nurses.
- Maintain good working relationships, attend staff meetings, encourage input on improvements.
- Ensure effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care through written care plans.
- Maintain correctly written records as required by company and regulatory bodies.
- Communicate all requests and changes of practice to relevant personnel.
- Assume named nurse/link nurse responsibilities.
- Report injuries, diseases and dangerous practices.
- Challenge poor practice and provide guidance for improvement.
- Deal with matters arising in the team with a view to settlement, involving HR when necessary.
- Ensure staff comply with policies and procedures including Health and Safety and Fire Regulations.
- Ensure service complies with regulatory requirements such as Control of Infection.
- Attend staff meetings internally as required.
- Maintain sound relationships with regulatory bodies and related organizations.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Current nursing license in the state.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- PALS/ACLS (can be obtained).
