The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects through relationship building, personalized stewardship, and strategic solicitation. This role plays a critical part in sustaining and advancing the mission of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation by securing philanthropic support in alignment with the Province’s mission, values, and best practices in fundraising.
The MGO works collaboratively with Mission Advancement staff, friars, and leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of making gifts of $1,000 or more annually, including leadership gifts, multi‑year commitments, and planned gifts.
Key Responsibilities- Manage an active portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, typically 100–150 individuals.
- Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned donors.
- Conduct regular donor outreach including in‑person visits, phone calls, handwritten notes, and personalized communications.
- Build and maintain strong donor relationships that encourage long‑term engagement and support.
- Strategically solicit major gifts in support of annual fund priorities, capital projects, special initiatives, and mission needs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Mission Advancement on solicitation strategies, gift ranges, and proposal development.
- Assist with capital campaign planning and execution, including donor strategy, leadership gift cultivation, and campaign tracking.
- Accurately document all donor interactions, moves management activity, and outcomes in the CRM (Donor Perfect).
- Use reports and data analysis to track progress toward goals and adjust strategies as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical fundraising standards at all times.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in major gifts fundraising or a related advancement role.
- Demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
- Knowledge of planned giving concepts preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.
- Ability to work respectfully within a mission‑driven, values‑based organization.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Donor Perfect or similar) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Willingness to travel locally and occasionally regionally; some evening or weekend work required.
Salary commensurate with experience.
