Overview

The Occupational Therapist is accountable for safe, effective patient and family-centered care in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the organization. The staff Occupational Therapist will provide services to all age populations 0-65+ and older populations in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. The Occupational Therapist will utilize established policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective care.

Responsibilities
  • Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
  • Responsible for providing services to all levels of patients that may include acute care patients, outpatients, and skilled/nursing/home health and hospice clients.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team, in accordance with CMS guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and meet the individualized needs of all patients served.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with others as required and adjusts care plan as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes. Ability to perform as both a generalist and specialist.
  • Performs initial assessment and repeat assessments at designated and appropriate intervals on all assigned patients, recognizing disturbed physiology and abnormal parameters.
  • Assesses pain levels on all patients and manages pain using the approved standards and pain scales.
  • Assesses psychosocial needs of patients, educates them to the plan of treatment.
  • When indicated, delegates portions of the treatment plan to occupational therapy assistants and utilizes supportive personnel within their scope of service.
  • Educates patients and families in treatments/rehabilitation techniques in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; participates in patient care conferences.
  • Designs and fits adaptive devices based on a patient’s disability and rehabilitation needs (e.g., splints & braces).
  • Performs treatment programs in accordance with pre-established protocols.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy and timeliness of documentation in patient medical records.
  • Recognizes unusual conditions outside of expertise and seeks input from an interdisciplinary team.
  • Keeps patient/family informed of progress, procedures, and disposition.
  • Maintains working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures practice is compliant with standards.
  • Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties as necessary.
  • Qualifications Education

    Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program

    Experience

    Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapist preferred.

    Certifications/Licensure
    • National Board Certified Occupational Therapist (NBCOT) Certification - Required
    • Current CPR/BLS Certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date
    • Nevada OT licensure within the first 6 months
    Skills

    Proficient computer skills to document patient care and enter information into the electronic medical record system;
    Epic experience preferred.

    Working Conditions & Demands

    Routine hospital/healthcare and office/administrative conditions; exposure to patients and guests under varying circumstances; may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and infections; handling of emergency or crisis situations; variable hours with possible travel between locations.
