The Senior Power Engineer will support high and medium voltage (up to 138 kV) power transmission, distribution, and substation construction, maintenance, and operational activities for the NNSS.
- Provide engineering support for field operations including walkdowns, work package development, construction support, troubleshooting, event/outage analysis, and outage mitigation.
- Serve as the key power stakeholder for initial project scoping and turnover to analyze configuration impacts and execute change control across all projects.
- Participate in integrated project activities from inception to execution for large complex projects that produce new or modified power system assets for operations and maintenance.
- Lead technical development, design, and analysis for small and medium power projects using prescribed codes, standards, software, and best practices.
- Update and maintain system models, studies, and configuration records.
- Maintain system relay settings, templates, policies, and procedures.
- Develop maintenance programs, electrical testing procedures, and associated policies.
- Implement and maintain Site Power’s reliability tracker and associated data collection and reporting.
- Monitor or analyze work of technicians and support staff on projects, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
- Develop construction standards and equipment specifications for Site Power.
- Prepare work statements for complex subcontracts and procurements, evaluate bids, and recommend awards.
- Maintain engineering tools and software, metadata, and data flows.
- Contribute to procedural and policy development including protection manuals, testing and maintenance processes, design standards, and reliability metrics.
- Facilitate coordination of disciplinary information within the company and with external vendors.
- Coordinate with external engineering support as needed for complex engineering needs.
- Define and deliver training programs for less experienced engineering staff.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide practical advice on solutions.
- Direct the work of engineers in the absence of the designated manager.
- Represent company positions within other departments, headquarters, or regulatory bodies (NERC, WECC, etc.).
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering program (ABET) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical engineering, or a calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering, or for Architects, certification from NCARB; or a Professional Engineer license.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience demonstrating technical specialization or cross‑disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
- Ability to interpret and apply codes and standards including NEC, NESC, NFPA 70B, NETA, IEEE.
- Strong competency in developing and interpreting one‑line diagrams, electrical schematics, instrumentation & control diagrams, and construction drawings.
