Job Description
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

Performs duties as a facility/system engineer to ensure safe, continued operational readiness for the Device Assembly Facility (DAF), a nuclear facility located in the forward areas of the NNSS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting more senior engineers in maintaining overall cognizance of assigned facility systems, providing systems engineering support for operations and maintenance, and technical support of line management safety responsibilities for ensuring continued system operational readiness.
  • May validate physical configuration of assigned system; assist more senior engineers in maintaining and updating system documents for Configuration Management.
  • Works under direct supervision with general guidance from more senior engineers.
  • Performs work of limited scope and basic complexity.
  • Develops solutions to routine technical problems; focus on applying academic knowledge to the work and developing good work/team habits.
  • Assists in compiling and summarizing data.
  • Participates in developing field programs and designs using pre‑determined principles and practices.
  • Contributes to designs, strategies, reports and technical proposals.
  • Performs design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
  • Assists in defining specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
  • Works with outside vendors as required to obtain relevant information.
  • Participates on routine projects.
  • May serve as a member of work teams.
  • May monitor work of and provide guidance to skilled technicians and other support personnel.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
  • Or Professional Engineer license
  • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross‑disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline in which they were hired.
  • Knowledge of fan, motor, ventilation control systems, HEPA filtration, or Glove boxes / confinement systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn and innovate.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Should be self‑motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ideally, the applicant will have strong time‑management skills, be well organized, maintain safe work habits, and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
