The Field Engineering Team is looking to hire two Principal Field Engineers to lead Field Engineering in the execution of projects and support the construction department during construction activities of infrastructure projects at the Nevada National Security Site. This includes construction projects, emerging project issues, supporting project discovery, scope development, and identifying functional requirements for projects and systems. The Principal Field Engineer will also perform duties as the Project Field Engineer (PFE) on projects, coordinate efforts, and guide less experienced field engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in walk‑downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review functional requirement documents.
- Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
- Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents.
- Review engineering documents for constructability during design reviews at 30%, 60%, 90% and Issued For Construction (IFC) stages.
- Verify and report on construction installation quantities.
- Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to RFIs, FCRs, and required design changes.
- Develop red‑line drawings for incorporation into As‑Built drawings.
- Prepare, review and approve material requisitions.
- Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Serve as an internal subject‑matter expert in the given engineering discipline.
- May serve as Project Field Engineer (PFE) for Line‑Item projects.
- Mentor Field Engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices.
- Participate in project development by helping to define customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce effective outcomes.
- Serve as an expert advisor to other project personnel on technical issues and interpret codes and standards.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
- Leverage past knowledge to develop processes that drive efficiency and accountability.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by ABET (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) or a calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering, for architects NCARB certification, or a Professional Engineer license.
- At least 9 years of relevant experience and a demonstrated ability to specialize technically or cross‑disciplinary.
- Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline.
- Experience working as a member of a team of professional and technical personnel.
- In‑depth experience analyzing complex technical problems and developing systematic solutions.
- Experience in as‑builds, analysis, and discovery of older facilities needing modification.
- PE license desirable but not required.
