Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). ResponsibilitiesThe Field Engineering Team is looking to hire two Principal Field Engineers. They will help lead Field Engineering in the execution of projects and support the construction department during construction activities of infrastructure projects at the NNSS.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as Project Field Engineer on projects, coordinating efforts and guiding less experienced field engineers.
- Participate in walk‑downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and review functional requirement documents.
- Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
- Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents.
- Review engineering documents for constructability during 30%, 60%, 90%, and Issued For Construction (IFC) designs.
- Verify and report on construction installation quantities.
- Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Requests (FCRs), and design changes.
- Develop red‑line drawings for incorporation into As‑Built drawings.
- Prepare, review, and approve material requisitions.
- Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Serve as internal subject‑matter expert with a given engineering discipline.
- Possibly serve as Project Field Engineer for Line‑Item projects.
- Mentor Field Engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
- Leverage past knowledge to develop processes that drive efficiency and accountability.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering program (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) or a calculus‑based STEM engineering degree; or an architect with NCARB certification; or a Professional Engineer license.
- At least 9 years of relevant experience with demonstrated technical specialization or cross‑disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
- Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline.
- Experience working as a member of a professional and technical team.
- In‑depth experience analyzing complex technical problems and developing systematic solutions.
- Track record of executing work in compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies.
- Experience with as‑built analyses and discovery of older facilities requiring modifications.
- PE license is desirable but not required.
- Primary work location:
Nevada National Security Site, 65 mi northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. - Work schedule:
4/10’s, Monday‑Thursday (subject to change); occasional overtime may be required. - Pre‑placement physical examination, include drug screen; MSTS maintains substance abuse policy with random testing.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Applicants must obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and a minimum age of 18. DOE background investigations, drug testing, and counterintelligence evaluations may be required.
