Overview
Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) / Department of Pediatrics, Division of Complex Care. Position located in Neenah, WI at Children’s Fox Valley hospital campus. The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Division of Pediatric Complex Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the inpatient setting. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team and will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.
PositionHighlights
- Direct Care and Medical Care Coordination:
Use care coordination to implement the plan of care for special needs patients in collaboration with families, nurses and physicians in the Complex Care Program, primary care, subspecialists and other providers. Examine and assess patients, prescribe medication and changes in treatment under the supervision of Complex Care Program physicians. Synthesize and evaluate patient/family responses to therapy; make independent judgments; offer input on discharge needs;
evaluate effectiveness of discharge planning as a transition to home and adaptation to illness. Provide expert advice incorporating the broader aspects of patient/family responses to illness. Seek opportunities for information sharing and initiating consultation. Responsibilities include inpatient rounds, outpatient clinic visits, emergency room visits, occasional home visits, and writing/updating comprehensive clinical summaries in compliance with program procedures, documentation, and billing procedures. - Advocacy:
Advocate for children with special health care needs and their families in healthcare, public policy, with community organizations, and in other forums. - Education and Outreach:
Present educational programs and conferences. Communicate content for formal and informal teaching and act as a resource for patients/families, staff, and the community. Participate in Complex Care research and quality improvement efforts. - Evidence Based Practice:
Apply current research findings in practice. Introduce current research into clinical practice. In collaboration with the Complex Care team, develop and implement research proposals that fit with the program’s mission and goals. Contribute to the body of knowledge in nursing and related disciplines. - Program Development:
Contribute to program development efforts, particularly clinical care improvement and activities in collaboration with the Complex Care team. Collect patient-related data to comply with program requirements and needs. Participate in professional development activities including professional organization membership. - Practice
Location:
Care will be provided in both Appleton/Northeast region and Milwaukee Campus. Collaboration with all subspecialties. - Reporting:
This role will report to the APP Manager.
- Full-time position
- Expectations for coverage during core business hours with flexibility as necessary to accommodate business needs
- 2-3 call nights per month and 1-2 holidays per year
- 11-12 weeks of inpatient services on Milwaukee campus per year; includes weekends and on-call
- Salaried Exempt
Complex Care APPs practice at the highest scope of practice with an independent caseload and flexible clinic schedule. Strong retention with APPs in complex care ranging between 2 to 15 years of experience. Strong collaboration with all subspecialties at Children’s Wisconsin.
QualificationsPreferred Experience:- Previous APP proficiency in complex professional and administrative skills usually acquired through 2-3 years of clinical experience preferred.
- Open to new graduates with 2-3 years related experience with care of medically complex and fragile children with chronic conditions.
- Advanced Practice Nurse:
Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. - Physician Assistant:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
