Overview

The Clinical Counselor, Counseling and Wellness provides direct clinical services to support the mental health and well-being of Olin College students. This role delivers assessment, short-term individual counseling, crisis response, and referral services to a diverse student population, exercising professional judgment in treatment planning, risk assessment, and care coordination. Working collaboratively with Counseling and Wellness colleagues, campus partners, and external providers, the Clinical Counselor supports a coordinated continuum of care and contributes to effective response for students of concern.

In addition to clinical practice, the Clinical Counselor engages in outreach, prevention, and educational programming, consults with faculty and staff on student mental health issues, and supports campus-wide initiatives that promote resilience, wellness, and help-seeking behaviors. The position also provides supervision and training to graduate interns, maintains accurate and confidential clinical records, and participates in ongoing professional development and departmental planning.

Through clinical expertise, collaboration, and community engagement, the Clinical Counselor advances a supportive and inclusive campus environment and the mission of the Counseling and Wellness Center. This is an in-person/on-campus position based in Needham, MA.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Services and Crisis Response:
    Provide assessment, short-term individual counseling, and referral services to students presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns common in college populations, including anxiety, depression, stress, identity development, trauma, neurodivergence, and crisis situations.
  • Respond to and manage mental health emergencies and crises, including risk assessment, safety planning, and coordination of appropriate interventions in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Maintain a caseload consistent with Counseling and Wellness Center standards, providing timely, student-centered, and developmentally appropriate care.
  • Collaborate with students to develop treatment plans and determine appropriate levels of care, including referrals to on- and off-campus resources.
Care Coordination and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the College’s external mental health partner, UWILL, to support a coordinated continuum of care, including referrals, consultation, and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Communicate and coordinate with external providers, including therapists, psychiatrists, and treatment programs, to support continuity of care while adhering to confidentiality and consent requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Counseling and Wellness colleagues, the Student Affairs department, and campus partners to support students of concern and contribute to coordinated mental health planning and response.
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding student mental health concerns, classroom management issues, and referral processes.
Outreach, Education, and Community Engagement
  • Plan, develop, and participate in outreach, prevention, and educational programming related to mental health and wellness, including workshops, trainings, and campus events.
  • Engage in key community programs such as Orientation and other student transition initiatives to promote awareness of mental health resources and support help-seeking behaviors.
  • Contribute to campus-wide mental health initiatives and efforts to promote resilience, well-being, and a supportive campus culture.
Supervision, Training, and Professional Engagement
  • Provide supervision and training to graduate interns in accordance with licensure, ethical standards, and institutional guidelines.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, case consultations, and departmental planning activities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competence, licensure, and awareness of best practices in college mental health.
Administrative and Documentation Responsibilities
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, ethical standards, and institutional policies.
